Showing Your Beauceron in Canada

Herding

The Beauceron is unfortunately a rarity in herding competitions in Canada, and the majority of judges have yet to see a Beauceron compete, or even attempt the Herding Instinct Test. In Canada, there are no known Beaucerons with a Herding title, which is a real shame, as the natural abilities and instincts of the Beauceron are not being exploited to their fullest, in a field where the breed does very well. Before any dog can compete in a herding trial, he must first undergo a Herding Instinct Test. The rules for the Herding Instinct Test vary from one Country to another, but the basic principle remains the same. Since the Beauceron is not recognized by the CKC (Canadian Kennel Club), it is not eligible to compete in any of the CKC herding trials. A proposal has been made to open up all performance events to any breed of dog, but at this time, it is still a proposal.

The AHBA (American Herding Breed Association) holds a few trials every year in Canada, as does ASCA (Australian Shepherd Club of America), although not as many with the latter. The Beauceron is therefore only eligible to compete in Canada in Herding Trials through AHBA and ASCA. The only Herding Instinct Test recognized in Canada is the one done through AHBA. Some rare breed clubs or other herding breed clubs organize Herding Instinct Tests on a regular basis, but unless they are sanctioned by AHBA, they are not officially recognized.

The official governing body for French Ringsport in Canada is the Canadian Ringsport Association (CRA).

• Please check the www.canadianringsport.ca for information on upcoming trials in Canada.

For information on the rules of Ringsport, please refer to the
North American Ring Association (NARA).
NARA is the official governing body for French Ringsport in the US.

• Please check the www.ringsport.org for information on rules and regulation.

Tracking

The only organization with which the Beauceron can earn a tracking title is with NAMBR (North American Mixed Breed Registry). The requirements for the NAMBR tests are essentially the same as those for CKC. To date, there has only been one Beauceron that obtained a Tracking Dog (TD) title while competing in Canada, and this is my female, Abby du Murier de Sordeille. There are no TDX, UTD or UTDX Beaucerons in Canada. Please refer to my tracking page for more information.

There are more sports and activities that the Beauceron has participated in. These are just the main ones listed above. If I have omitted any organizations, please contact me with the particulars so that I can update this information.
